Leak Detection in the City Bowl

The City Bowl suburbs, Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Vredehoek and Oranjezicht, sit on the slopes below Table Mountain, and they are among the oldest residential areas in Cape Town. Older homes mean older plumbing, often on sloping ground, and that brings a particular pattern of hidden leaks that I am called to across all of these suburbs.

Hidden leaks in older City Bowl homes

Much of my City Bowl work is in established homes where a pipe has been quietly failing. I have traced leaks here to copper cold water lines, to pipework behind kitchen sinks and washing machine points, to shower traps, and to pressure reducing valves on hot water cylinders in the roof. In older plumbing, the leak is rarely where the damp appears, which is exactly why it needs proper detection rather than opening walls on a hunch.

High water bills and underground leaks

A high bill with no visible cause usually means water is escaping underground or inside the structure. In the City Bowl I have traced these to the main fresh water reticulation and to underground supply lines with nothing showing on the surface. I pinpoint the exact location so the repair is contained to one spot, which matters in older homes where opening the wrong wall or floor is disruptive and costly.
