City of Cape Town water rebate

If you have a high water bill and suspect an underground leak, you may be able to claim a rebate from the City of Cape Town.

What you need to do:

• Confirm the leak (we can do this for you).

• Have the leak repaired by a registered plumber.

• Gather the following documents:

  • Completed City water rebate application form

  • Tip: Ensure the address on the form matches the address on your water account

  • Copy of the property owner’s ID

  • Plumber’s report or invoice detailing the repair

  • Our professional leak detection report

How to submit:

• Email all documents to accounts@capetown.gov.za

What happens next

• The City will review the application.

• A water inspector may be sent to verify the leak and the repair.

• If approved, a rebate may be applied to your municipal account.

Important:

• The rebate usually only covers up to three months of leaked water.

• Only one rebate is allowed per owner, per property.

• Rebates are typically 50% of the cost of the leaked water.
